  14. PROBLEM:             The Impact Super VGA card from Trident may have problems 
  15.              working correctly in some systems.  The symptoms may be 
  16.              one or more of the following:  (A) The system may hang 
  17.              during boot-up or (B) some characters may be missing
  18.                      from the screen or (C) the colors may be incorrect.
  19.  
  20. REASON:              The Impact Super VGA decodes all of the addresses between
  21.              A0000 and DFFFF (hex).  This causes a conflict with other
  22.              cards that may be in the system that are using a portion 
  23.              of the addresses in this range.  It could also cause
  24.                      problems with memory manager software that tries to use 
  25.              this portion of memory.

  27. SOLUTION:            Locate the DIP switches on the right side of the Impact 
  28.              Super VGA card.  Set switch 4 to the OFF position and 
  29.              switch 5 to the ON position.  This will cause the Impact 
  30.              Super VGA card to decode only the addresses that it is 
  31.              actually using (A0000 to C7FFF hex).  The Impact manual 
  32.              is incorrect because it does not even mention switch 4.

  34.                      There is also a new version of the Impact Super VGA by 
  35.              Trident that does not have the DIP switches.  It is 
  36.              labeled `LC2' in the upper right hand corner.  In this 
  37.              case there is a jumper (shunt) labeled SW4 which must be
  38.                 installed to correct this problem.  The new manual does 
  39.              mention jumper SW4 on page 4-2 but is not as clear as it 
  40.              should be about it's function.

  42. NOTE:          On some motherboards everything may seem to be working correctly
  43.            even though the conflict exists.  Check your system carefully 
  44.            because long term reliability may be degraded if a system runs 
  45.            for a long period of time with a bus conflict.
